The Clock Tower was built between 1667 and 1687, next to the Town Hall, to replace one of the Castle towers, which served as a corner to the mayor's houses (V. Silva 1869:74) and which according to the state of conservation of the castle, threatened to overthrow.

With the earthquake of 1755, the tower suffered some considerable damage, a fact that must have contributed to it being seriously damaged again by the earthquake of 1858.

The exterior of the tower, built with the municipal treasury, presents an architectural typology framed in a late Mannerism, which in this case was characterized by the use of corners and access portal in a judicious apparatus and by an unbalanced and ambiguous vertical scale, with development in three distinct registers: tower body, winds and corúcheu (it is the final pyramidal or conical finish of a tower or a bell tower. This type of construction is very common in northern and central European architecture).

Inside the tower, oriented by a square plan, there is only an ascending staircase, in ashlar stone, arranged around a central rectangular well (intended for the weights of the clock mechanism), which connects the two outer crevices, the four bell winds, one of which with the application of much of the stone of the 17th century clock's circular dial, and, finally, the interior of the vaulted spire in a clergyman's cap.

Right now, the only thing you can see are the ruins of this Tower, which is awaiting recovery.
